I began sketching shortly after I started writing screenplays. As my characters came to life in my head, I let them seep out onto paper. It was an untapped aspect of my creativity, though it runs in my family. My Mama is a very talented artist with a penchant for drawing cartoon characters. As it turns out, I enjoy similar sketching. And when it comes to story boarding for shoots, my stick sketches keep the cast and crew entertained.
I also have discovered a love for watercolors and I find myself testing out all types of patterns and ways of creating texture within the paintings. I’d like to try acrylics next and see the kind of deepness and richness I can get from the thicker paint. I tend to enjoy painting abstracts in monochromatic color schemes, though I also enjoy multimedia projects, mixing textures with paint and color.
Photography has always been a passion. I find that through the camera, I can pinpoint something really beautiful in a sea of really busy. Small things that the average passerby may just breeze by, I can bring to life. A smile, a look, a small piece of nature, or an imposing city skyline. The camera captures things that the human eye often misses – it’s like finding treasure. And I love being a treasure hunter with my camera.
