I take pictures all the time. Lots and lots of pictures of all different kinds of things. I often find that the simpler the subject, the more I love it. And if it looks stellar in black and white, I love it even more.
There’s something to a black and white photo. It simply and effectively filters out all the noise and boils the photo down to its simplest story. I took the photo below outside of Nationwide Arena on my way to work one day. This was the only leaf on the sidewalk, all by itself, having fallen from the safety of its home onto the busy bricks, where the traffic of a noisy day would eventually sweep it away.
It’s perfect shape and being against the man made bricks caught my eye, and so I captured it with my camera. I often find myself just staring at it, lost in wonder at the natural beauty against the cold, hard world. It’s one of my favorite photos of all time.
